Preview: Athens trip in July

In July it’s finally time again: we’re going to Athens.
For lots of great immersive adventures and escape rooms.
A total of 28 experiences are on the program, more than three quarters of which are horror rooms.
We will be traveling to Athens with four players, but will be playing the first day in pairs.
What’s exciting is that Ozzy, Noah and I, three players with a lot of experience, will be playing together with Katja, who only has experience of a few rooms.
We’re looking forward to it and I’ll make sure that Katja shares her experience here afterwards.
It starts on the first of July and I’ll show you what we can expect there.

It starts on the first of July with a real hit.
The first room will be The Grudge.
Anyone who has read my review knows that I am very excited to see what our experience will be like this time.
It’s clear that it’s a really strong room and will be very intense, especially for two players.
Let’s see how Noah does, as I’ll be holding back a little.
The room is based on the movie series of the same name and has one of the highest scarefactors I’ve played so far.
Let’s continue with Otherside from Escape Theory.
This is a room based on the Stranger Things series and that’s also the reason why I really wanted to play this room.
There are two Stranger Things rooms in Athens, this one was ranked a bit better by Heiner, for example, but doesn’t have an actor.
I’m definitely looking forward to it, as I’m a big fan of the series and there’s far too little on this topic.

The third room on the first day is another highlight for two reasons. It is Amen from Neverland. The first reason why I’m really looking forward to it is that Amen was highly praised by my fellow players on the last trip. We split into two groups of 3 for three days and played slightly different rooms. The second reason is that a friend of Ozzy will be our actress that day and we’ll be going out to dinner with her later in the week.
The fourth and final room of the day is another horror experience, Boogeyman by Reality Ripples.
I know relatively little about the room, but have heard from many other players that it is supposed to be a very nice experience, horror-heavy, but not quite as intense as other rooms in Athens.
I’m really excited and looking forward to finishing the day around half past one.
Because Boogeyman doesn’t start until 0:00.

Before Ozzy and Katja join us, Noah and I play two more rooms at Escapolis.
These are Helleavator and Gustave Eiffel.
Noah has already played Helleavator, so I’ll probably have a bit more to do this time.
Gustave Eiffel, on the other hand, is supposed to be a pretty difficult room, even by Athens standards.
I’m really excited to see how we do and I’m looking forward to the rooms, especially as the operators of Escapepolis have always been really nice and we’ve had good experiences here.
The first room the four of us will play is a completely new room that has only been bookable for about a week.
Mea Culpa from Fear Factor.
I even think it’s the first room of this operator, even if you don’t always know that in Athens, as there are always mergers under new names.
In any case, the story sounds very good and the first reports from test groups also suggest a very great experience. Update: Unfortunately, we were unable to play the room, but were able to play Terrified Market instead.

Then it’s on to the guys and girls from C9H13NO3 Donors.
Ozzy, Alex and Anna already had very good experiences with the newer Operation Black 1 room on the last Athens trip and got on really well with the operators and actresses.
So it was clear to us that we would play both rooms this time.
I’m really looking forward to playing this room, which was actually planned as an event.
The name Mary’s Dolls again refers to creepy dolls and is based on the movie Dead Silence.
The last room on the second day will be something very special.
We will play the second room of C9H13NO3 Donors: Operation Black 1.
As I said before, Ozzy & Co have had a very good experience with the provider and we are still in very positive contact.
This also means that the three of us will probably play this room.
We’ll see what Ozzy does in the meantime, but he’ll probably have something to do, maybe he’ll travel to New Guinea during that time.

We start the next day with a special feature.
We are playing a non-horror room in Athens.
It’s Scooby Who? from Art of Escape.
I wasn’t particularly impressed by Lillipout, but Anna and Alex told us a lot of positive things about the Scooby Who?
room.
And since we also really like comedy rooms and Scooby Doo was part of our childhood, we simply had to include this experience in our plan.
I’m looking forward to lots of fun and definitely a laugh or two.
I know relatively little about the next room.
It’s The Bride in Black by VANSA.
I only had the room on my screen because we will be playing another room with the same provider afterwards.
As far as I know, it’s about the Insidious film series, as the Bride in Black plays one of the main antagonists.
In any case, it will definitely be very creepy and we’ve had very good experiences with rooms that we didn’t know much about beforehand.
And the trailer is also really brilliant!

We stay at VANSA and play the latest room there.
Of course, this is also a horror experience, which is once again based on a movie.
This time it’s The Curse of La Llorona.
I’m very excited because I find the story very exciting and also very appropriate for an escape room.
The focus here is once again on atmosphere and drama, which I really like anyway. Off we go to Mexico?
After a short break, we will finish off in a typical horror setting: a psychiatric clinic that carries out experiments on people.
We will be playing OUTCAST by Brain On.
A room that has received consistently good reviews and that I’m really looking forward to.
I’m a fan of these settings, perhaps because the mental hospital in Mönchengladbach was my first horror room.
Again, the trailer promises a great experience.
More trailers like this please, it will increase the anticipation!

Half time.
At least in terms of days.
There are still 16 more experiences ahead of us.
And only horror experiences.
We start on Thursday with one of the best rooms in the world, which three of us have already played.
However, it was very important to Ozzy that Katja should also take this experience with her and the rest of us thought the room was so great that we would like to play it again.
It is, of course, Chapel & Catacombs by Lockhill.
I won’t say much more about it at this point, as I’ve already written a review .
The next room on our list has a very evocative name: Houdini.
Of course, it’s about the most famous magician and escape artist in history.
He seems to have become involved with dark forces and we have to help him escape from hell.
A room that was highly praised by many test groups, especially because of the acting.
So it’s right up our street.

The next room is also a relatively new room, but at least there are now a few reviews of it. Santa Sofiana by AmbienD.
I know next to nothing about this room, except that many have described the scare factor as very high.
The very brief description and the picture suggest something supernatural, possibly also a religious theme.
It’s not always a disadvantage if you know very little about what to expect.
It could be that the room has something to do with the movie The Nun, but I’m not sure.
Insanity’s 03:15 is a brand new room for which there are only a few reviews from test groups and which has only just opened.
Ever since the poster and a first teaser were published, I knew that I definitely wanted to play this room.
I’m all the more pleased that it worked out and that we’re now one of the first groups to play the room.
For me, it’s one of the experiences where the anticipation is the greatest.

As if there hadn’t been enough horror, at 0:30 we become victims of the Butcher once again.
This room has been open a little longer and is a special feature, as our friends from Escapepolis usually build puzzle rooms.
I’m really looking forward to seeing whether the horror experience can keep up with the Creepy Store and whether we can really escape the Butcher at such a late hour.

After a certainly exhausting Thursday, the first horror experience starts at 12:45 on Friday.
We visit Illusion Escape Rooms and play The Attic.
This room is a bit older, but was probably redone not too long ago.
Let’s see what awaits us in the attic and whether we are alone there.
Probably not.
A room themed around the Supernatural series.
At last.
I’m a big fan of the series and have always wondered why there hasn’t been a single experience based on it.
Now Illusion Escape Rooms has created such a room and it’s ready just when we are in Athens.
We’ll be one of the first groups to play the room and I’m really looking forward to it!

We continue with another very new room.
And again with a horror experience based on a movie.
This time it’s Sinister by Lockbusters.
The movie is pretty scary and the room will probably be very similar.
In any case, I’m very excited and don’t even know what I’m most looking forward to – probably just everything.
We continue with the sequel to Amen, which we will be playing on Monday.
I’m really excited to see what we can expect here.
But I’m very sure that it will be a firework of horror moments, great acting and effects.
A lot of good things have already been reported about Amen and Metanoia should go one better.

Late in the evening, around 23:30, we start with another very new experience: the Ghost Writer from Horror Productions.
I found the room interesting a few months ago when it was first announced in the various Facebook groups.
So I’m all the more pleased that it was finished just in time for our trip to Athens.
I’m very excited to see what’s behind it and the story already suggests a lot.
06.07.2024 in Athens

Saturday is the last day in Athens.
And what’s the best way to start the day?
By killing zombies, of course!
We decided to play an escape room that wasn’t quite so typical, but one with a lot more action.
The choice fell on Toxic, which is a mixture of horror experience, escape room and vicious day.
I’m really curious to see how it will work and whether we’ll like it.
We continue with a classic horror experience a la Athens.
Namely with the brand new room The Axe Murders of Villisca by Horrorwood.
The room opened recently and so far the feedback has been nothing but positive.
Naturally, our anticipation is all the greater.
The experience is based on a true story from the beginning of the 20th century.
It is all the more interesting that it was never solved.
A perfect basis for such a room. Update: Unfortunately, we were unable to play the room, but we were able to play Rebellion instead.

Then it’s on to XII Divisions, which has opened another completely new space with ZOE.
I don’t know anything about the room, but I found the teaser text and the poster very interesting a few weeks ago.
So it was clear that we would definitely play the room when it opened in July.
I’m always very happy when I know as little as possible about the room, that’s the best way to be surprised.
On the last day, it’s all about the action and we have very few breaks.
At around 20:00, we head straight to Reality Ripples to play not one, but two rooms.
We will play both Deadlock and its successor room, Deadlock Redemption.
In contrast to many other rooms, the supernatural antagonist here is not the creepy girl in white, but a tall guy in a gas mask.
For me personally, this makes the whole thing seem much more threatening and I’m curious to see whether it really will be that threatening.
We already have the boogeyman on Monday with the same provider.

Then the time has really come.
The last room of our Athens trip starts at 23:30.
We’ll be playing the whole new Hide N Seek room.
It’s based on the Halloween movies and we’ll definitely run into Michael Meyers.
When the room opened a few weeks ago, there was a big discussion about why it was a bit more expensive than the standard Athens room.
This discussion quickly died down, as everyone was so enthusiastic that the price/performance ratio was right.
I’m definitely looking forward to it, movie adaptations are always cool.
