The Grudge by 1Way Escape<\/a> is a relatively new escape room, so there aren’t many reviews about it yet.
\nBut as we had heard a lot of good things, we were very excited.
\nThe Grudge is based on the film of the same name, or rather the films and remakes of the same name.
\nWe didn’t know the films beforehand and didn’t know exactly what to expect.
\nThe only thing we knew was that it would somehow take place in a Japanese setting and that it could be quite violent.
\nSo the anticipation was great, but so was the tension.<\/p>\n<\/div>

A note at this point:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Our first experience at The Grudge was not good at all.
\nHowever, this was not because it was a bad room, quite the opposite in fact.
\nIt was due to both the booking procedure and the way we were treated during the game and especially afterwards.
\nThe pricing is also not entirely comprehensible.
\nHowever, we gave the room a second chance and had a much better experience.
\nAccordingly, I have now adapted my review here and will no longer go into detail about what was bad.

First impression<\/span><\/h2><\/div>

In typical Athens fashion, The Grudge also began without a lobby.
\nWe were greeted directly by an actor in a really beautiful Japanese setting.
\nWe immediately felt totally taken in and the immersion was there. A quick note for everyone: Please read the story and the introduction beforehand.
\nWe didn’t do this and found it a bit difficult to get into. <\/em> We were then immediately brought into the game by our host and separated from each other.
\nWe then had to somehow find our way back together.
\nAnd that wasn’t easy at times.
\nBut in any case, the first impression was really good.
\nThe setting is great, the actor introduced us to the whole story straight away and we knew immediately that this beautiful Japanese flair was deceptive.
\nThere’s an ominous atmosphere in the background, you’re on your guard the whole time waiting for something to happen.
\nAnd of course it happens relatively quickly, but it’s definitely a great first impression.
\nA beautiful setting, a great welcome and everything – from going to the toilet to locking up our things – perfectly embedded in the game. You can’t do much better than that.<\/p>\n<\/div>

Setting, atmosphere and immersion<\/h2><\/div>

The quality <\/span>of the <\/span>setting of The Grudge doesn’t let up and matches the great first impression<\/span>. <\/span>There <\/span>there is <\/span>a real<\/span> great <\/span>Scenery.
\nHere 1Way Escape offers a s <\/span>more <\/span>high <\/span>Quality, <\/span>in particular <\/span>also, <\/span>when <\/span>one <\/span>considered, <\/span>that <\/span>it <\/span>is a <\/span>Horror experience <\/span>deals, <\/span>where the quality <\/span>mostly <\/span>not <\/span>so <\/span>much <\/span>Value <\/span>laid <\/span>will. <\/span>The Japanese<\/span> Setting <\/span>was <\/span>complete <\/span>to <\/span>to the <\/span>End maintained with a very high level of detail<\/span>. <\/span><\/p>\n

The <\/span>only, <\/span>perhaps <\/span>something <\/span>something <\/span>smaller <\/span>Point of criticism, <\/span>is <\/span>the <\/span>Sound. <\/span>The <\/span>Sound <\/span>itself <\/span>was <\/span>good, <\/span>but <\/span>on <\/span>some <\/span>Just put too much<\/span>. <\/span>Both <\/span>what <\/span>the <\/span>Volume <\/span>but <\/span>also <\/span>what <\/span>the <\/span>Repetitions <\/span>from <\/span>Highlights <\/span>concerns, <\/span>so <\/span>that <\/span>we <\/span>with <\/span>the <\/span>Solution <\/span>from <\/span>the <\/span>one <\/span>or <\/span>other <\/span>Puzzles too much of the<\/span> Sound <\/span>distracted <\/span>were. <\/span>But <\/span>like <\/span>said, <\/span>it <\/span>is <\/span>a <\/span>smaller <\/span>Point of criticism <\/span>and <\/span>in total <\/span>is <\/span>it <\/span>one <\/span>very <\/span>high <\/span>Quality, <\/span>what <\/span>there <\/span>delivered <\/span>will. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>

Scare factor and intensity<\/h2><\/div>

In my opinion, the scar factor in The Grudge is very high.
\nThere are a lot of actor interactions.
\nThere are one or two jump scares, but this is not the focus.
\nIn contrast to other horror films, the focus is on the atmosphere and the situational fear.
\nOverall, I think it’s very well done here.
\nIt’s not so exaggerated that you don’t get any story at all, but I would still consider the factor to be very high.
\nThe intensity is very variable throughout the experience.
\nI would say that in three quarters of the room the intensity is very high.
\nSimply because of the many actor interactions, the sound and the whole oppressive setting.
\nNevertheless, there are always phases where you can take a deep breath and where you know that you are relatively safe.
\nYou will never be completely safe in an experience like this.
\nI would say the intensity is high, but not extremely high.<\/p>\n<\/div>

Drama<\/h2><\/div>

Let’s move on to the absolute highlight of the room, which is also very often the highlight of the experience in Athens, and The Grudge is no exception.
\nThe highlight is definitely the actors.
\nOnce again, there are several actors at work here, not just one actor or actress.
\nAnd everyone involved played their roles really well.
\nIt was really great and I have to say that I was simply thrilled with the actors and I don’t think you can do any better in this setting.
\nThey also got involved with us, unlike the operators afterwards.
\nIt was a really great performance and you really can’t do better than that.<\/p>\n<\/div>

Puzzles<\/h2><\/div>

The <\/span>puzzles in The Grudge <\/span>are <\/span> overall varied and creative.
\nIt <\/span> gives <\/span>not <\/span>only <\/span>the <\/span>typical “<\/span>Find <\/span>that, <\/span>peep <\/span>you <\/span>the <\/span>on”, <\/span>but <\/span>it <\/span>are <\/span>very <\/span>different <\/span>Riddle. <\/span>Total <\/span>are <\/span>the <\/span>Most <\/span>Riddle <\/span>very <\/span>good <\/span>feasible.
\nIt <\/span>are <\/span>also <\/span>very <\/span>many <\/span>simple <\/span>Riddle <\/span>in the process, <\/span>but <\/span>on <\/span>other <\/span>Position <\/span>then <\/span>also <\/span>again <\/span>very heavy.<\/span><\/p>\n

In retrospect <\/span>voted <\/span>for <\/span>me <\/span>however <\/span>that <\/span>the <\/span>Ratio <\/span>not, <\/span>so <\/span>the <\/span>Span <\/span>between <\/span>very <\/span>heavy <\/span>and <\/span>very <\/span>simple <\/span>was <\/span>to <\/span>large.

Basically <\/span>were <\/span>the <\/span>Riddle <\/span>all <\/span>very <\/span>good. <\/span>It <\/span>was <\/span>detachable <\/span>and <\/span>where we had problems, <\/span>would have <\/span>we <\/span>through <\/span>a<\/span> better <\/span>Help system <\/span>also <\/span>Relative <\/span>fast <\/span>manage<\/span>. <\/span>I <\/span>would <\/span>here <\/span>a <\/span>little <\/span>on <\/span>on <\/span>the <\/span>Harmony <\/span>the <\/span>Riddle <\/span>work, <\/span>then <\/span>would be <\/span>it <\/span>from <\/span>the <\/span>Puzzle structure <\/span>here <\/span>perfect.
\nAnd of course the help system needs to be rethought. <\/span>Otherwise <\/span>fitted <\/span>everything, <\/span>whereby <\/span>one <\/span>say <\/span>must, <\/span>that <\/span>the <\/span>Riddle <\/span>for <\/span>a <\/span>Horror experience <\/span>clear <\/span>heavier <\/span>were <\/span>as <\/span>with <\/span>other <\/span>clearances, <\/span>the <\/span>we <\/span>played <\/span>have, <\/span>in particular <\/span>in <\/span>Athens.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>

Story<\/h2><\/div>

As for the story, I have to say that I’m judging it as someone who didn’t know the movie beforehand and didn’t look into the background.
\nAnd under these circumstances, I thought the story was really good.
\nIt was very exciting because we were allowed to find out more and more about the background to the story and really knew more from step to step.
\nOur role became more and more clear to us, culminating in minor twists and a good finale.
\nThe only thing that hurt the story a bit was the help system.
\nThe voice of the help was supposed to be the voice of a young boy and we thought it was a woman’s voice, which unfortunately led us on the wrong track for a very long time during the game.
\nPerhaps I should also point out here that you should make it clear at the very beginning who is talking to us.
\nIf this has been resolved, I have to say that the story fits very well.<\/p>\n<\/div>

Our first game was not a great experience at all.
\nThis was due to the operators and game masters.
\nThis has now improved significantly in the second game.
\nAccordingly, I am also adjusting my rating here, but will not go into detail.<\/p>\n<\/div>

Who the experience is suitable for<\/h2><\/div>

The Grudge is of course suitable for horror fans.
\nI would also say that it is not a room that you should play as a newcomer to the horror genre, as it already has a higher scare factor and the overall atmosphere can be very oppressive and intense.
\nContact with the actors is not without its challenges either.
\nThere is repeated physical contact.
\nHowever, physical contact does not mean physical violence here.
\nBut it can happen that you are touched or something similar.
\nI remember two situations that were very, very creepy.
\nAccordingly, I wouldn’t recommend it for people who have problems with horror or who want to approach the genre slowly.
\nFor players who enjoy horror, it’s the perfect experience.
\nThe Grduge is one of the rooms that perfectly realizes the horror genre without relying solely on jumpscares or setting the intensity so high that you don’t notice anything.
\nI would recommend the room for any number of players between two and a maximum of five.
\nWe played it with three players, which was a very good size, but I can well imagine playing it with two.
\nAnd I will soon.
\nBut the room is also perfectly feasible with slightly larger groups, as it is a large area and not very cramped.
\nAs I said, there is physical contact, but the physical requirements for players are not high.
\nOf course, as in any horror experience, you have to run away, but you don’t have to crawl or climb much.
\nAnyone with average physical health can play this room and even with certain limitations the room is quite doable.
\nPerhaps you should contact the operators beforehand, but it is one of the few horror experiences that could be suitable for people with physical problems.
\nOtherwise, the room is relatively heavy for a horror experience.
\nThis means you should definitely have someone with you who can think clearly, even if you are being chased.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>
